Frozen stream on Mt. Tecumseh
|
Our
second ever winter 4,000 foot mountain hike began on a cold
day. It was 6F in the parking lot when we started and never
got warmer than 20F. We followed the Tecumseh trail up the mountain
which was a lot steeper than any of us expected. Add to that
some problems with crampons staying on our boots and it made
for a slow climb up to the top. When we made the summit the
temperature was just above 0F with wind gusts around 20mph.
Needless to say, we didn't stay for very long. On our way down
a speed hiker passed us heading up, then down the mountain.
I've never seen anyone move so fast in the winter.

For
our first hike of the year we decided to do something easy.
Mt. Tecumseh was a good choice because the trail was only 5
miles round trip from Tripoli Rd.!
|
|
We
didn't find too many open area's for views, but did manage to
find one spot just before we reached the summit.
