View from Mt. Pierce in the winter

The day we hiked Mt. Pierce was mild by winter standards. The temperature was in the mid to upper 30's with little wind. We made good time on the trail and only saw a few people the entire day. However, we weren't entirely alone. We we stopped for a break we were visited by some gray jays who wanted our snacks.

This was the first winter 4,000 footer for all of us so to celebrate the occasion we enjoyed some champagne on the summit.

We made it to the summit of Mt. Pierce from the Mitzpah cabin in about an hour. The trail begins climbing steeply from the cabin, but levels out before the summit. The clouds were rolling in and out and our views were limited.

We took a break at the summit for a little while and had to tell a couple of other hikers that they made it. The peak is very broad and wooded, but luckily there is a large rock cairn and a benchmark located at the summit.

Mt. Pierce

Bruce and I bagged the summit of Mt. Pierce on our way back from Eisenhower. We didn't spend much time on the summit because we wanted to check out the Mitzpah Spring hut and get back to the car. Even though it was cool, cloudy and damp all day it did not rain during our hike.
