| Me,
Danielle and Anthony had a great day for hiking up Mt. Jackson.
However, our short 8 mile loop hike ended up being over 11 miles
due to some confusion with trail names. (see Mt. Webster below for
story)
|
We
were fortunate to have a clear sky and fantastic views from the
summit of Mt. Jackson. The smoke from the cog railway was easily
visible from our vantage point.

The
hike back to Rt. 302 from the summit of Mt. Jackson begins very
steeply, but moderates a bit as you get lower. Eventually the
trail comes out at the southern end of a small pond across from
the Crawford Notch train depot. |

Our
plan for the day was to take the Webster Jackson trail to the
summit of Mt. Jackson and return via a loop over Mt. Webster.
However, due to our excitement and confusion with trail names we
went up the Webster Cliff trail. |
None
of us realized our error until we got to the cliffs and discovered
that we weren't where we were supposed to be. After some
discussion we decided to hike to Mt. Jackson by going over Mt.
Webster and return to route 302 via the Webster Jackson trail. |

Once
we made it back to the highway we had a 3 mile walk back to the
car. All of us were grateful it was downhill the entire way. Even
though we didn't follow our original itinerary we had a great hike
and enjoyed the views from the cliffs that we would have otherwise
missed. |
