Mt. Garfield

Hiked on: August 24, 2008
(Danielle, Tim, Anthony - Total Distance: 10 miles)
Anthony joined us on our second trip up Mt. Garfield. We had a spectaular day up on the summit, but after several years away from this mountain we forgot how long the hike can be. We had fantastic views and just missed our AT hiking friend Mountain Lion by only a couple of hours.

The trail to the summit of Garfield is 5 miles one way with no views until the summit. However, it was a very nice walk in the woods. The last 1/4 mile was a bit steep and rocky, but all the effort was worth it. There is an old foundation to a fire tower that some people were sitting in to get out of the wind. We both thought the view from Mt. Garfield was awesome!

The day we did this hike was warm and sunny. There happened to be a drought during this summer, but the spring at the Garfield campsite was still flowing.

There was a bit of haze in the air that obstructed the view into the Pemigewasset Wilderness.

Mt. Garfield has one of the most unique views of the Franconia Ridge. Too bad the sun was in the way for a decent picture.
